Our projects

The mission of the project “On the Path Toward Family” is to support children who live in orphanages. The project provides psychological support, education and recreational activities, support for special needs children, and training for the professional staff which leads to the development of an individualized life plan for every child and assistance with placement that will help them to find a stable family.

The project operates in these orphanages:

  • Posada de Belén
  • Maqueira
  • Juan Pablo II
  • Ciudad de los Niños – de la Inmaculada

107 children and teenagers in orphanages were supported by the activities of this project and aided in making the transition to a new, stable family.

The ancient land of the Incas

Peru has a population of 28 million inhabitants concentrated for one third in the metropolitan area of its capital city, Lima.

This country is known for its thousands-year old culture and its enchanting landscapes. Its great pyramids are a majestic legacy of the Inca civilisation, whose profound influence is still felt in Peruvian culture.

A long trail of blood

A long and difficult war, which lasted for over twenty years, left a long trail of blood and thousands of “desaparecidos” (the disappeared). The armed conflict created serious economic, political and social consequences: child soldiers, parents obliged to live far away from their children, violence and pervasive poverty.

In August 2007, a violent earthquake destroyed Peru’s central areas, causing over 500 deaths and 1600 wounded. This was a new, dramatic, humanitarian emergency for an already tortured country.

The abandonment emergency.

50% of the population lives in poverty and in a state of profound social inequality.

The situation of abandoned children is even worse: the country’s institutions already shelter 9 thousand children. These structures are overcrowded and inadequate. Another difficult issue is that concerning young people who, upon attaining majority, are released from the institutions with no possibility of joining non-existent support and social integration programmes. Our work should start here.
